Conversion Tracking debugging tools

Check that conversions fire once, at the right moment, with the right parameters.

How these conversion tracking tools fit together

Conversion tracking fails in a few repeatable ways: the conversion doesn't fire, fires twice, fires at the wrong moment, or fires without the value, currency or ID the platform needs. Ad platforms optimise on whatever they receive, so each of these quietly changes where your budget goes.

The tools here check one link of that chain at a time. Browser checks load a public confirmation or form page and record exactly what GA4, Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, Reddit, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads receive. Validators check files and dataLayer structures before they reach a platform. None of them submit forms, place orders or send test conversions.

If you're not sure where to begin, start where money is involved: the purchase or lead confirmation page. Check that conversions fire once, with value and an ID, and then move outwards to forms, pixels and offline imports.

Where to start

  1. Duplicate Conversion Event Detector

Ad platforms report more conversions than your CRM or store.

  2. Checkout Purchase Event Checker

You want to confirm the purchase event fires once with value and currency.

  3. Form Conversion Tracking Checker

Lead conversions don't match the leads in your CRM.

  4. Meta Pixel + CAPI Deduplication Checker

You run the Meta Pixel and Conversions API together.

  5. Google Ads Offline Conversion CSV Validator

You upload CRM conversions to Google Ads.

Common questions

Why do ad platforms report more conversions than I actually got?
Duplicate tags, conversions firing on confirmation-page reloads, and missing deduplication IDs are the most common causes. Each platform also uses its own attribution window, so totals across platforms overlap.
Can a browser scan see server-side conversions?
No. Conversions APIs, server containers and offline imports go from your server to the platform and never pass through a browser. These tools say so explicitly instead of reporting them as missing.
Should conversions fire on button clicks?
No. A click isn't a completed action. Fire conversions from the success response or confirmation state, and send an order or submission ID with them.
What's the most important parameter on a purchase event?
A transaction or event ID, because it's what lets platforms ignore duplicates. Value and currency come next, because bidding and reporting depend on them.
